"This sculpture reflects a woman of strong cultural and ethnic ties in both her face and her attire. Her face is that of a Tahuaramara of northern Chihuahua, Mexico. Her shawl is typical of North American Indians but with Hispanic Chimayo designs and on her feet she is wearing Taos moccasins. As a mother, she is her child's first teacher. The sculpture depicts both mother and child singing in harmony."
