"The Amore series is one of the most fulfilling and challenging art projects I have encountered in my 46 years as an open-minded sculptor. I have let the art take me on a magical journey guided only by sincere inspiration. The Amore has two sides, one southwest and the other is contemporary abstract expression with a couple transitional areas dividing both sides.
In the Southwest side, the female figure is a young woman of the Santo Domingo Pueblo who wears her hair in a traditional way. She joins in spirit and love with the male figure which is represented as a Plains Indian warrior, keeping the purity of the original people in the beautiful land.
Supporting the spirit of the Santo Domingo maid, I use the representation of the most enigmatic and wise bird in the southwest, the raven or crow. To add the 4th dimension of time, I place a track representing the past and mysticism of the crow. The wing of the female crow is a negative space that induces curiosity to look at the other side.
Supporting the young warrior is the spirit of the bear, which is a magic spirit that after liberation revives and starts a new life. The bear represents a magical renewal, a new journey. The bear track represents the dimension of time, reminding us of past tradition and memory. To the left side of the bear, as a transitional touch, is a bear claw that is an invitation to turn the piece and enjoy the abstract side.
On the contemporary abstract side, the young Indian couple is represented as a wedding vessel, traditional of the southwestern Indian culture. In this case, the abstract has a touch of modernism and romanticism. In the center of the bronze, there is a negative space that is an energy center that is surrounded by Mother Sun. The patina is intense red, giving homage to the sun and her warm touch over Mother Earth, which is represented by the darker patina in the next elegant oval circle. It embraces in the magical ring of Mother Sun and connects to the outer ring of Mother Moon, which frames the bronze as a unity of cosmic equilibrium.
As a base for the 3 mothers, Sun, Earth and Moon, I designed a flat mesa which grows to a high mountain that reminds us of the beautiful scenery of northern New Mexico."
