Marco’s woodcarved nativity set as pictured includes seventeen figures carved from pine plus a portal made of cedar wood. The pine woodcarvings are polychromed using traditional Spanish Colonial techniques, in which coats of animal hide glue and gesso are put onto the carved figures, then they are painted with natural pigments and then waxed. Each nativity is one-of-a kind, and each piece is individually signed by the artist. Other figures can be added to the seventeen basic figures, making the set collectible art that can become an heirloom.
