"The name of this sculpture is derived from the name given to a strong, well-endowed woman in the Keresen language of the Laguna Pueblo in New Mexico. The origin of the piece has many different sources. When I was a child I remember looking over the balcony of an oceanfront vacation home and seeing a top view of girls on the beach. Another influence is a stone carving of Venus from approximately 23,000 years ago, found in what is now Austria. She represents fertility and the beginning of idolatry and religion. This is another representation of 'organic metamorphosis'. You can look at the piece from one side you see her running, and from the other side, she is resting. This woman has her hair combed in pigtails. This represents the two directions and symbolizes the wisdom of women to change their mind in contrast to men who can at times be stubborn and inflexible."
