"Leo Bataglia of the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum asked me to design a piece for the NASA anniversary. He wanted the piece to have a touch of my traditional carving. I made a spaceship in a Noah's Ark form but it has control panels like a spaceship. The astronauts are like 'action figures' and are depicted scratching their head and looking hard at where they have landed. Instructions are not in the 'NASA #1 Manual', but what they see is an Angel 'showing a little leg' and thumbing a ride for her and her shepherd friends. Hence the name, 'Celestial Hitchhikers.'"
